The card asks which side of the scale you're on, and whether the exchange is equitable. There is dignity in both giving and receiving; the shadow appears when giving becomes control, or receiving becomes dependence. The merchant holds the scales — so it also raises the question of power: is the help freely offered, or does it come with strings?
